You glance at your watch.

It’s 6:28. You’ve been at it since 3.
Crap. Your hot date is at 7. Running late. Sink shower it is.
Nowhere close to done editing…

“…at least all the ideas are laid out, so there’s that. Did I miss anything? I don’t think so? Ok, but how do I make it flow? I need to get the final draft to Stacey for design asap, team cutoff is at noon Thursday…”

You’ve spent dinner completely distracted. Your date just took off. You go home exhausted, plod to your desk, and flip open the laptop.

Or… what if:

5:41 — you’re out of the shower and lip-syncing.
6:17 — dressed to the nines and zenned out.
7:03 — the sunset glints off your aviators as you smile hello.
8:36 — it actually feels like you’re hitting it off. Not just hot, funny to boot.
Next morning, 9:27 — final draft ready in your inbox.
10:31 — Stacey messages back, “thanks, looks good!”

The difference?

Chapter Three

The three Ellipsis sisters insisted on doing everything together. They wore the same clothes, ate the same food and listened to the same music. Their parents christened them Dorothy, Doritella and Dottina but most often people referred to them as Dot, Dot, Dot.

At school, they were exceptionally well-rounded, careful to dot every single i. (Though friendly with the T’s, they studiously avoided crossing them.)

Nonetheless, many of their classmates found them aloof. Perhaps it was because they had a bad habit of leaving conversations hanging…

Or maybe it was because sometimes they would suddenly pause…

…for an excruciatingly long time.

One evening, after a poetry class, Dot, Dot and Dot found themselves surrounded by several angry Words. Fed up with having their sentences rudely interrupted, they decided to teach the girls a lesson.

Fortunately, some Commas intervened and managed to separate them.

After several tense moments, the entire commotion came to a full stop. No one was injured but the sisters vowed that wasn’t the end of the matter… 🏁 

This is a punny, hairy dog.

We’re constantly bombarded with calls to action. So a simple chuckle without being pressed afterwards goes a long way.

This strategy is especially effective for awareness — humor is sticky. A brief escape into a story and we’re left with a positive memory associated with Penguin.
